A little clarity

Your privacy matters.

Trails Privacy Policy · Updated October 15, 2026

Who we are

Trails helps people discover, create and complete collections of places and experiences. This policy explains the information used to provide the website and mobile app, and the choices you have.

What is public, and what is private

Your display name, username, bio and published public Trails are public. Your saved items, Trail progress, visits, personal notes and Passport are private to your account. Drafts and private Trails are visible only to their creator. Publishing a Trail shares its recommendations and curator notes; it does not share your personal visit notes or completion history.

Information we collect

How we use it

We use this information to authenticate you, synchronize your account across devices, display your chosen public content, maintain private progress, provide search, resolve reports, prevent abuse and improve reliability. Where applicable, processing relies on providing our service, legitimate interests, consent, or legal obligations.

Service providers

Supabase provides account and database infrastructure. Google and Apple provide sign-in. Geoapify supplies place search. OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap support maps; loading maps sends normal network information to the map service. Hosting providers deliver the website and process operational logs. Google advertising services may receive advertising data where ads are enabled. We do not sell personal information in the traditional sense.

Photos and location

Only upload images you own or have permission to use. Uploaded cover photos are processed to remove embedded metadata, including GPS metadata. A cover on a public Trail can be seen by others. Search may use an approximate region derived from your network request. Directions open in an external map service, whose privacy policy then applies.

Trails does not track your device GPS. If you choose to record a venue visit and date, that private record can reveal an exact place you visited and when. We store it to synchronize your history, progress and Passport. You can browse without recording visits. We do not send your private visit history to advertising providers.

Storage on your device

Authentication information is stored on your device so you can stay signed in. Browser storage may also hold your pending sign-in destination, downloaded Trails and changes waiting to sync. Sign out on shared devices. Browser or device settings can clear locally stored data.

Retention and deletion

We retain information as needed to provide Trails, resolve disputes, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. You can delete your account from Account settings. See account and data deletion for assistance. Shared place records may remain for other users without your personal history. Limited records may be retained when required for legal or security purposes.

Your choices and rights

You can edit your public profile, change a Trail’s visibility, remove saved items, correct personal visits, block profiles and delete your account. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, export or restrict use of your data. Contact hello@lavs.info for privacy requests.

Children and security

Trails is not directed to children under 13, or the applicable minimum age in your region. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system can guarantee complete security.

Changes and contact

We update this policy as the product changes and will update the date above. For questions, contact hello@lavs.info.
